It is our intent to grow healthy, independent and responsible members of the community who have the tools to make ‘good’ choices in life.
We aim for pupils to have an understanding of how they are maturing personally and socially and develop their sense of self-worth by a playing a positive role in contributing to school life and the wider community.
We provide our children with opportunities for them to learn about rights and responsibilities and appreciate what it means to be a member of the diverse society in which we live.
The Personal, Social & Health Education (PSHE) curriculum has three core themes running through all year groups.
- Health and well-being
- Living in the wider world
It is taught through whole class discussions and debates, quizzes, role play, circle time and stories. The curriculum is also supported by The Christopher Winter Project as well as specialised visitors coming into school, including the school Nurse.
As part of our PSHE curriculum we also cover Sex and Relationship Education (SRE). At Albion, we believe that high quality Relationships Education is an entitlement for all pupils. This education is accurate and factual, covering a range of information about relationships in order to make informed choices. SRE is positively inclusive in terms of gender, sexual orientation, disability, ethnicity, culture, age, religion or belief or other life-experience.
We are aware of the way that PSHE supports many of the principles of safeguarding and links closely to schools Safeguarding, Spiritual, Moral, Social & Cultural (SMSC) and British Values Policies. We are all aware of the important role the PSHE curriculum has in supporting school to implement the 9 protected characteristics of The Equality Act 2010.

Through our PSHE and SMSC curriculum at Albion Primary School we recognise our duty to ‘actively promote’ and provide opportunity for children to understand the fundamental British Values (Democracy, The Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect and Tolerance) first set out by the Government in the ‘Prevent’ strategy in 2014, for those with different faiths and beliefs in order for them to become fair, tolerant and confident adults in a forever challenging world.
